A set of three black and white photographs from the 1967 competition in Madrid which show the first ever female competitors to take part in the international contest.
The photographs include the medal winners.
Spain’s Encarnación Molina, in the sleeveless dress won gold in Women’s Hairdressing - earning her the honour of the first ever female gold winner. Also shown is The Netherlands’ Anthonia or Antonia van Hattem, wearing a hair band, who received silver in Women’s Hairdressing.
The identity of the young woman smiling at the camera is not known.
At least eight women competed in Hairdressing, Engineering Drawing, Tailoring and Sheet Metal Work. Five won medals. - Date
