- Title
- 45th WorldSkills Competition, Kazan 2019 - Chef's uniform
- Description
-
A jacket worn by Sam Heaven, a young competitor from New Zealand who participated in the Cooking category at WorldSkills Kazan 2019, finishing in 36th place. The uniform features a decorative sleeve with a Māori motif, designed by Sam himself. Though he is not Māori, he values the Māori heritage that is an integral part of New Zealand’s culture. To ensure cultural appropriateness, he consulted with Māori people, the indigenous inhabitants of New Zealand before European colonization.
Beyond his uniform, Sam incorporated Māori elements into his competition space and culinary approach, integrating Māori influences into his menu planning and plating. This included developing his own custom moulds. - Date
