Leslie Woolley's diary 1961
Description
The hand-written diary of Leslie Woolley, a gas pipe welder who competed for the British team at the 1961 competition in Duisburg, Germany.
The diary was given to Woolley by his girlfriend Margaret before he left. It was his first trip abroad. Woolley was 17-years-old at the time and an apprentice at the Michelin company in the English city of Stoke on Trent. The diary records events at the competition, tourist excursions and many autographs of fellow competitors. He notes with regret losing his camera.
The diary carries the inscription "Good Luck Les. Love from Margaret” on the inside cover. Les and Margaret have been happily married for more than 50 years.
