The article describes the 'run-up' to Birmingham hosting the 'Skill Olympics' at the National Exhibition Centre, in 1989. It is noted in the article that there are 'only 37 girls in the field, most in "feminine" jobs'. At this competition the UK pioneered two demonstration skills: information technology and computer-aided design. Half of the article puts the focus on 'IT Skills' development in the UK.
