A First Day Cover issued to mark the 1970 competition in Chiba, near Tokyo, Japan. This was the first time the competition had been held in Japan and Asia. The envelope is affixed with a 15-Yen stamp of a silhouetted competitor inside the IVTO logo.
The postmark, dated 45. 11. 10. is a sketch of the venue, the Budokan Arena. The last two numbers refer to the month and day of the competition, 45 is the year under the Japanese nengo system, which begins anew under each emperor. In this instance, this is the 45th year of Emperor Hirohito, also known as the Showa era.
The envelope is notable for an engraved metallic plate featuring the same design as the stamp.
Inside is a slip of paper printed with details of the competition in English and Japanese, the printing process, and the name of the stamp's designer, Miss Midori Masumi. Twenty-one million stamps went into circulation. - Date
