9th International Vocational Training Competition, Barcelona 1960. Bronze medal A medal presented to Clive Barker of the UK. He placed third in oxyacetylene welding in the junior category at the 1960 International Vocational Skills Competition in Barcelona, Spain. The medal carries the competition logo on the face and the name on the reverse. It is tarnished and the small leather ribbon belt is somewhat discoloured. Barker recalls that it did not come in a presentation box. -

Order of Cisneros dress pin The Order of Cisneros was awarded to Fred Hill on 15 October 1963 by the government of Spain for his role to increasing the profile and membership of the skills competitions. Hill, who was British, was the first non-Spanish citizen to receive the honour. -

It is made from a silk-like gold material with a gold cord to hang. The design include the competition logo which feature the Sagadra Familia, a branch with leaves (olive?), and symbols representing skills, including bricks, a plumb line, and a pot. -

Dress medal and pin 1957 A dress medal and pin given to Martin Gleeson of Ireland by the Spanish organizers of the 1957 competition in Madrid. Gleeson was a delegate at the event and he would go on to become chair of the committee which brought the competition to Dublin, Ireland, in 1963. The medal and pin are in its original blue velvet lined box. -
1st International Workers’ Vocational Training Competition, Iberian Competition, 1950, Madrid. Trophy A trophy from the first international event in Madrid in which Spain competed against Portugal. In WorldSkills' early years trophies were awarded to winners. This trophy was awarded to Joan Arsequell Callejas for winning in Wood Pattern Making. An apprentice at the time, he used the prize money to purchase a raincoat, giving the rest to his mother to buy food. -
Federal Republic of Germany pennant, 1961 A pennant handed out to participants at the 1961 competition held in the Federal Republic of Germany (known as West Germany, retroactively called the Bonn Republic.) The flag features the black, red and yellow colours, and coat of arms of the Bonn Republic. Although Germany sent a team to the first wider international competition in Madrid 1953 and was instrumental in the creation of the IVTO in 1956, the year 1961 marked the first time Germany hosted the competition. The event was held at the Rheinstahl Wanheim and Huttenwerke Rheinhausen workshops from 2 – 14 July 1961. -
Milling exercices Milling exercises that the apprentices used to make at the SEAT apprentices School. This was made by José Juan López Valverde when student at that School in 1974. He was the champion of Milling at the 1974 Spanish VET competition. -

15th International Vocational Training Competition, Utrecht 1966. Silver medal A medal, probably a spare, from the 1966 competition in Utrecht, Netherlands. The decorative elements on the front of the medal are in low relief and the engraved text reads 'Utrecht Nederland 1966.' On the obverse is "XV Internationale Beroepen Wedstrijden" which translates as "15th international Professions Competitions." -

The original was lost in a fire. The medal carries the logo of the competition and the inscription "hoofd en hand" which translates as "head and hand." the skills needed to be a good apprentice. The year 1966 marked the first time The Netherlands, one of the signatories to the 1956 founding document, hosted the competition. -

The medal dates from the International Apprentices Competition 1965 in Glasgow and features the Lion Rampant, the Scottish royal coat of arms. The design is by Albert Lucas, a jewellery design tutor at the Central School of Arts and Crafts, Southampton Row, London. -
